Acupuncture for pain, when you want relief without another pill

Ongoing pain wears on everything: sleep, mood, work and family time. Melissa Montoya, R. Ac., is a licensed Registered Acupuncturist with a focus on pain management, offering gentle, personalized treatment in North York.

Acupuncture treatment for back and shoulder pain

A personal plan for your pain

Pain has many causes, so treatment starts with listening. Melissa asks where the pain is, how it behaves, what makes it better or worse, and what else is going on in your health.

Acupuncture can be received alongside physiotherapy, massage, chiropractic care or your doctor's treatment. At Core Healing Path it can also be combined with homeopathy and nutrition if you want a broader plan.

Visits are in North York at 333 Sheppard Ave E, Suite 5W. See also acupuncture in North York and acupuncture for women's health.

Are appointments covered by insurance in Ontario?

Many extended health plans in Ontario reimburse visits with a registered homeopath, and some cover nutrition counselling. Coverage depends on your plan, not on a single rule for every insurer. Check your booklet for homeopathy, naturopathy, or nutrition, then bring questions to a free 15-minute call. Virtual appointments are available across Ontario and for clients outside Canada.

Questions people ask before they book

Can acupuncture help with back pain?

Lower and upper back pain are some of the most common reasons people try acupuncture, and it has been widely studied for pain. Responses vary, so Melissa assesses your pain and history first and recommends a plan.

Does acupuncture help with neck pain, headaches and migraines?

Many people seek acupuncture for neck and shoulder tension, tension headaches and migraines. Sudden, severe or unusual headaches should always be checked by a doctor first.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need for pain?

It depends on how long you have had the pain and what is causing it. Recent pain may need fewer sessions; long-standing pain usually needs a course of treatment. Melissa will discuss what to expect at your first visit.

Can I have acupuncture alongside physiotherapy, massage or chiropractic care?

Yes. Acupuncture can be received alongside physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care and your doctor's treatment.

Is acupuncture for pain covered by insurance?

Acupuncture is not covered by OHIP, but many extended health plans include treatment by a Registered Acupuncturist. Check your plan for an acupuncture benefit.
